CoPilot

After the last post concerning my iMac, late 2014, I will report to you that the hard drive failed right in the middle of getting it up and running. The progress bar, after about 10 separate attempts to get it to boot, went only half way. As I used that computer for so long to post process my photography I was loathe to just throw it in the recycle bin and say, Bye-Bye. So, I began searching the internet to see if an alternative solution existed and it does.
About a month and one half ago I downloaded and installed Co-Pilot, an A.I. I have used on my PCs in trial mode, onto my Mac Mini and decided to ask the A.I. what could be done. There is a solution and what Co-Pilot has given me is a succinct tutorial on bringing the iMac back by formatting an external ssd (Solid State Drive) with Mac OS, Big Sur to operate as the new hard drive, bypassing the defunct HDD. That was great as I have been switching my back ups from Synology NAS to solid state drives for some time now. For this use I am using a Crucial X-10 Four Terabyte ssd. I spent a good part of yesterday afternoon erasing that drive and reformatting it for such a use.
This afternoon I am ready to try the procedure of substituting that ssd for the fusion drive of the iMac which is now dead. If it works or not I will tell you how it went here tomorrow. If you would like I will have Co-Pilot finalize the tutorial and post it here for those having the same problem.
Our first family computer, in 1998, was a Mac. I later went to PCs as they are far less expensive until I got back into photography in 2005. That is around the time I began reading up on Macs again but it wasn’t until 2014 that I purchased this iMac after saving enough to purchase it. Times were different back then and money was tighter with children still being raised. Now, not so much.
See you tomorrow?
